At our Annual General Meeting April 9, 2025, Hans Holmström was elected Chair of the Board of Directors.
In his inaugural address, Hans highlighted the global position of Swedish industry. “Swedish industry stands out for its innovation and its ability to reinvent itself, which has generated both competence and prosperity — for us and for others.
To stay on this path, partnerships between private and public institutions remain essential. “If you combine companies with Sweden’s strong financing capabilities, robust banking system, and trusted reputation in development cooperation — you get a super combo. NIR is a central part of that umbrella, bringing stability and prosperity where it’s most needed.”
Hans Holmström brings extensive industrial and international experience to his new role as Chair of the Board. Most recently as CEO of Siemens Energy Sweden, he has also held senior positions at ABB. His work has taken him across key markets — including the US, Germany, Switzerland, and New Zealand — and into complex business environments such as Algeria, Ukraine, India, and China.
Hans holds an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Luleå University of Technology and an MBA from Uppsala University. His practical understanding of global operations will strengthen our ability to support Swedish companies in challenging markets.

“NIR is 65 years old, but is constantly reinventing itself. By adapting to the needs of the Swedish industry and to partners around the world, NIR can continue to make a difference”
